I am a fervent lover of Birds & Miniature Schnauzers. The latter is an awesome dog breed, lively, bright, spunky & simply fun to be with!
For the past 18 yrs, my life was enriched abundantly by my trio of beloved Mini Schnauzers. They have since left me, but the wonderful memories they left behind are documented in these videos. I cherish them very much & I hope viewers will continue to enjoy them.
I have since turned my attention to my other love, BIRDS! Such fascinating creatures they are!
Although Singapore is just a Little Red Dot, it is blessed with rich avian life, largely as a result of the greening of our island. Besides the beautiful local residents, we continue to be visited by delightful migratory birds every year. These bird videos are very personal, a good portion of them taken when I was birding alone, & therefore, many of these videos are unique. I hope viewers will find them interesting & entertaining.

ORNATE SUNBIRD Nest building, Singapore
It seemed the female Ornate Sunbird was in charge of interior decor, as she flew in & out busily bringing nesting materials to cushion the lining of her completed nest. Fortunately, she had some bird to cheer her on! Her male partner! He was perched on top, merrily chirping his support. Never once did he attempt to help!😅
Formerly called the Olive-backed Sunbird, it now has a new name, the Ornate Sunbird.

Juvenile ORIENTAL MAGPIE-ROBIN adept at hunting!
Переглядів 764 години тому
Though still at a tender age, this little juvenile Oriental-Magpie Robin was already a good hunter, picking up earthworms with ease. But before it could feast on the worms, it had a slight problem with a previous meal, possibly a pellet, which caused it to regurgitate with much effort. Instead of the glossy black of its adult counterpart, the Juvenile Oriental Magpie-robin sports dark greyish s...
A sun-bathing SLATY-BREASTED RAIL, Singapore
Переглядів 2817 годин тому
It was a delightful surprise to meet this shy bird out in the open sunbathing on a hot sunny day. The Slaty-breasted Rail is an uncommon resident in Singapore. It is also very wary by nature, thus making a meeting with it all the more precious. #sgbirds #sgnature #sgwildlife #sgbiodiversity #cityinagarden #AnimalBuzzSG #nparksbuzz #cityinnature

Male PIN-TAILED WHYDAH Courtship Dance (played out at 3 speeds) & Mating
Переглядів 48412 годин тому
Admire the Male Pin-tailed Whydah's amazing Courtship Dance with the display played out in three speeds. The first dance was at actual speed. The second dance was slowed down 2x & then 4x. Both attempts culminated in successful mating. Pin-tailed Whydahs are residents in Africa but are non-native in Singapore. Those infrequently observed here in the wild are most likely, escaped or/and released...

Mesmerising Courtship Dance of the male PIN-TAILED WHYDAH

This video was slowed down 4x to better appreciate the beauty of this Male Pin-tailed Whydah's courtship dance. Its breeding plumage, the long tail streamers, definitely served to enhance the magnificence of his mating ritual. Pin-tailed Whydahs are residents in Africa but are non-native in Singapore. Close-up BANDED WOODPECKER, Singapore
Переглядів 6121 годину тому
A real treat to be able to admire the closeup of this uncommon resident, the Banded Woodpecker. It was perched quietly in the gardens in early hours of the morning. As it remained still for a long time, I had the rare chance to feast my eyes on its gorgeous fiery-red plumage, with gold emblazoned over its back, complete with a "mohawk" which looks as if it were on fire! Banded Woodpeckers are u...
Female BLUE-EARED KINGFISHER, Singapore
Переглядів 30День тому
This Blue-eared Kingfisher spots rufous ear coverts, indicating that it was a female. The mostly red bill suggests it was possibly a juvenile/subadult. It was perched quietly by a pond, resting & making no attempts to hunt. The Blue-eared Kingfisher is an uncommon resident in Singapore. It has recently been spotted in many nature parks in Singapore, possibly a very good sign that this uncommon ...
Brood Parasitism: GOLDEN-BELLIED GERYGONE raised a Cuckoo Chick instead!
Переглядів 40День тому
This is an example of brood parasitism, a strategy practised by the cuckoo species. The nesting Golden-bellied Gerygone had her eggs substituted by the parents of the Little Bronze Cuckoo. The former ended up unwittingly raising the cuckoo chick as its own. Indeed, it continued feeding this chick even after the latter had fledged. Little Bronze Cuckoos are common residents in Singapore. They ar...
Juvenile LITTLE BRONZE CUCKOO calling to be fed, Singapore

This little juvenile Little Bronze Cuckoo has an almost all-white underpart, with faint or missing the dark bars of its adult counterpart. It was just a fledgling, still calling incessantly for feeds from its foster parents. Little Bronze Cuckoos are uncommon residents in Singapore. Juvenile LITTLE TERNS, waiting for feeding,
Переглядів 137День тому
I was delighted to spot these two juvenile Little Terns waiting quietly in a drainage canal at low tide. After a long wait, their parent returned with just one fish, feeding only one of the juveniles. The hungry juvenile started crying agitatedly, & soon enough, both of them flew off. These juveniles were fledglings but were already flying very well. Little terns are common residents in Singapo...
Juvenile MANGROVE WHISTLER, Singapore
Переглядів 12714 днів тому
It was such a pleasure to meet a juvenile of this species, as the Mangrove Whistler is considered a rarity in Singapore. Historically, pocketfuls of this species had been on Singapore's offshore islands only. Sightings of this species have been sporadic on mainland Singapore. However, this particular bird appeared to have started doing well recently, as the presence of this juvenile suggests th...

How did it end up in SG ? A mystery . If it can live happily in SG , then probably it would be easy for them to breed as well . I know it sounds crazy as birds of paradise are native to New Guinea . But if it's their fate to settle down in SG then we can see lots of funny birds jumping & dancing/bouncing around . That must be lots of fun .
It remained a bewildering mystery how this bird ended up here. Sadly, it was no longer sighted a couple of weeks after this video was shot. Wherever it is now, I hope it is doing well. 🙏 Thanks for watching!
